This week, we’re going on an exciting journey through Advent, Christmas, Ordinary Time, Lent, and Easter.
Theme
Today, we journeyed through the liturgical season of Lent. This day focuses on the themes of prayer, fasting, and almsgiving for the Lenten season.
Virtue of the Day
The Virtue of the Day was Love.
Lent is a season of repentance: when we turn away from the things we do that hurt others instead of loving others - like lying or disobeying - and turn towards God to ask for His forgiveness. As Jesus prepares for His death on the cross, we are meant to prepare our hearts for Heaven by turning away from sin.
Because Jesus loves us SO much, He will always forgive us if we ask Him to in the Sacrament of Reconciliation. Through Jesus's love, we can be transformed and be given special graces to choose to do the right thing! We can choose to love others instead of hurt them because Jesus loves us first.
Ask your child to share the demonstration that Miss Alyson did with us today with the hearts and the poster board.
Saint of the Day
The Saint of the Day was St. Josephine Bakhita. We presented each child with a saint card today, so please read the story on the back of the card with your child.
Faith Station
In the faith station, your child learned that Lent is a time where we journey into the desert with Jesus for 40 days! It begins on Ash Wednesday and concludes with Holy Saturday, the day before Easter Sunday.
Jesus fasted for 40 days in the desert, avoiding Satan’s temptations. We can fast, too. Not only does fasting help us learn better self-control, but it reminds us of our hunger and need for God. Lent is also about prayer and doing loving and generous things for other people.
The Bible Verse of the Day was “Repent, and believe in the Gospel.” Mark 1:15
*Repeat this scripture to your child a few times to see if they can memorize it.*
Music Station
The songs in the music station were called, “Glory in the 40 Days and Without Love”. Ask your child to sing and do some of the actions to these songs. You can also download all the songs with this link. If you'd like the music videos, click here. We hope you continue to listen to the songs learned this week so VBS will remain in their heart all year long.
**Reminder** Join us on Friday at 11:45 a.m. in the main church for our musical performance! The children will be singing a few of the songs learned this week for our families.
Craft Station
The children made Rosary Key Chains today. Ask them to share what prayer is said on the big bead and what prayer is said on the little beads. We also had a Saint of the Day Coloring Page. Some of us also continued coloring a special "Great Journey With Jesus" coloring page that we will display in the "St. Isidore's Kids Corner" and other bulletin boards in our Church after VBS.
Snack Station
The kids enjoyed "Prayer Pretzels." Ask your child if they remember how the pretzels represent prayer.
Games Station
We played lots of fun games today. Ask your child which was their favorite.
Questions to ask your child:
How did the snack today make you think of Lent?
What is something you learned that you didn’t know before?
How can the season of Lent help us grow in love?
The Cat.Chat Challenge today is:
Pray a decade of the rosary together with your child using their new rosary key chain.
Tomorrow’s theme is:
On our final day of VBS, we will journey through the exciting season of Easter!
Serving the Community
As we journey through the liturgical seasons of the Church, we discover how each season invites us to know, love, and follow Jesus more closely. One way we live out our faith is by serving others with grateful hearts.
This year St. Isidore's VBS is collecting donations of water or Gatorade to support our local firefighters as a way of thanking them for their courage, compassion, and selfless service to our community. Together, we can share Christ's love and help build God's Kingdom through acts of kindness and generosity.
During these hot summer months, our local heroes need to stay hydrated. If you want to help, please drop off bottles of water or Gatorade anytime during the week.
Our 100% Catholic Vacation Bible School Program is hosted by the St. Isidore's Mom's Group.
The program is provided by Cat Chat. Learn more about them and their programs at https://catchat.ca/
