This week, we’re going on an exciting journey through Advent, Christmas, Ordinary Time, Lent, and Easter.
Theme
Today, we began our Great Journey with Jesus through the season of Advent. Advent is an exciting time of anticipation, waiting and preparing for the birth of Jesus.
Each season is marked with a specific color, which is also reflected in our group names. Ask your child what their group color is and encourage them to try and wear that color all week!
Virtue of the Day
The Virtue of the Day was Hope. Alyson Maguire, a missionary with us here at St. Isidore, is leading our virtue demonstrations this week. Hope is the expectation that something good will happen, which is the theme of the season of Advent. Advent is a time to prepare our hearts and our minds for the birth of Jesus - we hope with excitement for his coming to us. Ask your child what they think the seed we planted today will grow into.
Saint of the Day
The Saint of the Day was St. Nicholas. We presented each child with a saint card today, so please read the story on the back of the card with your child.
Faith Station
In the faith station, your child learned that Advent starts four Sundays before Christmas and lasts until Christmas Eve. Advent is a special time of anticipating, a season of waiting for the Savior of the World! We are waiting with hope for the coming of Jesus at Christmas. We are also waiting for Christ's Second Coming-when He comes again in glory and majesty.
They also learned about the meaning of the Advent wreath. Ask your child what the candles represent on the Advent wreath. (First purple candle is called the Hope Candle or the Prophecy Candle. The second purple candle is the Peace Candle or Bethlehem Candle. The third candle is called the Joy Candle or Shepherds' Candle. The fourth candle is the Love Candle or Angel Candle. (Opt.) The candle in the center of the Advent wreath is called the Christ Candle. It is traditionally white and is lit on Christmas Day.)
The Bible Verse of the Day was “Wait for the Lord, be strong, and let your heart take courage.” Psalm 27:14
*Repeat this scripture to your child a few times to see if they can memorize it.*
Music Station
Our VBS theme song is called, “The Great Journey with Jesus.” We also learned another song called, “Prepare My Heart.” Ask your child to sing and do some of the actions to these songs. You can also download all the songs with this link. If you'd like the music videos, click here. We hope you continue to listen to the songs learned this week so VBS will remain in their heart all year long.
Craft Station
The children decorated their "Adventure Backpacks!" Please have them bring it back each day so they can use it to carry the items they collect. We also had a Saint of the Day Coloring Page. We also started coloring a special "Great Journey With Jesus" coloring page that we will display in the "St. Isidore's Kids Corner" and other bulletin boards in our Church after VBS.
Snack Station
The kids made yummy Advent wreaths using bagels, cream cheese, pretzels, and decorations. Ask your child what they liked best!
Games Station
We played some fun, games to get to know each other today. Ask your child to tell you what they enjoyed the most in the games station today!
Take Home Items
St. Dominic Savio prayer card and coloring page.

The Cat.Chat Challenge today is:

Tomorrow’s theme is:
Tomorrow we will journey through the season of Christmas!
Serving the Community
As we journey through the liturgical seasons of the Church, we discover how each season invites us to know, love, and follow Jesus more closely. One way we live out our faith is by serving others with grateful hearts.
This year St. Isidore's VBS is collecting donations of water or Gatorade to support our local firefighters as a way of thanking them for their courage, compassion, and selfless service to our community. Together, we can share Christ's love and help build God's Kingdom through acts of kindness and generosity.
During these hot summer months, our local heroes need to stay hydrated. If you want to help, please drop off bottles of water or Gatorade anytime during the week.
Our 100% Catholic Vacation Bible School Program is hosted by the St. Isidore's Mom's Group.
The program is provided by Cat Chat. Learn more about them and their programs at https://catchat.ca/
